Elcano traction motor controller

Illustration 1: White box is battery; black box is controller

The illustration shows the robot in a state where the manual throttle (a twist grip on the handlebar) applies power to the motor. The battery is 36 volt lithium ion, 10 amp hours and capable of delivering 40 amps. The PedalGreen controller produces the signal to turn the rear wheel as commanded by the throttle. E-stops are not yet installed. A human readable cyclometer is provided. At this stage, the robot weighs 33 lb (15 kg). The present motor controller does not provide regenerative braking or reverse. Plans are to replace it with a Kelly controller providing these capabilities.

The powered robot wheel is sitting in a test stand.
